Looks to me like my 200tdi sum is leaking - either round the seal with the engine block or its porous... Now it looks in good nick , it just seems that after 2k miles the sump is thick with black oil and dirt all over ! . And drips oil off the drain plug and some off the front of the gear box , but none is coming out of the wading plug hole so im fairly sure its not the rear main seal.

There doesnt appear to be any oil above the sump /block interface , checked down the back of the block even incase it was the back of rocker or back of head gasket. It just seems to be manky up to the top of the sump and no more.

Having cleaned it up and looked for damage. , i guess the only other thing to do is next time i drop the oil , drop the sump and rtv the **** out of it ?

Hmmm that would be sub optimal.

Its leaving a footprint , but not dropping too much on the dip stick. Ill give it a couple of k, drain the oil , seal the sump and run for a few more k.

If still leaking i guess ill be pulling the engine out and redoing the flywheel housing sealing, baws

Need to fit some of them soft engine mounts anyway so i guess thats a good time :)

Is the cyclone drain hose damp? Mine was a bit weepy and I thought it was the sump. 1/2" bore oil resistent hose will do the job don't need to be heat resistant, a metre is more than enough.
Hth
Flossie

Good shout flossie , that was on my list of things todo - 3 months ago.

Totaly forgot about that.

Where did you get the hose from ? I assume it would be about a billion quid from land rover

Had the same on my 2.5NA so did an oil change and took sump off gave a good clean out and put new sump gasket on. The old gasket had gone rock hard and took a bit of scraping to get off. I just got a cheap gasket from greed bay which has stopped all leaks now. Handy to have socket extension on a drill though saves a lot of time with all the sump bolts.

Dont forget the 200 also has them stupid rear main bearing cork t-seal's.
Dont think there's a gasket on the 200 sump.

there isnt as stock lynall but iirc you can use the sump gasket from another - possibly the 2.5TD.

Supposed to be RTV'd to the block iirc.

Looked up the cyclone breather drain - 35 quid !!! **** that. anyone know the ID requirement of the hose so i can nip over the hydralic supplier - as noted on other forums when i pull the Drain hose oil will pish oot so want to drain fit and refill just once if i can :D

I've already posted the size blind git!
13mm or 1/2" bore oil resistant but don't need pressure or heat resistance plpe. Ffs lol!
Oh no! I said lol!
Getting down with the kids init?

so you did .

thank you very much.

I shall put my specs on before attempting to read this new forum layout on my phone.....

so 3 years developing ..... ive finally done something about it. Been working abroad for the last 2 years and have not had time to sort it. Finally came to a head when an email got circulated at the office saying can the owner of the blue land rover in the front carpark please remove it as the oil slick covering half the carpark is a hazard.

Engines out , its coming from everywhere it seems. have replaced the Cyclone hose , have replaced the rear crank seal (with genuine LR) the flywheel housing gasket with a genuine replacement and hylomar , the sump sealants been replaced and the rocker cover gaskets all been done.

Also replaced the engine and gearbox mounts with genuine
replaced the alternator after diode and rectifier issues
Tidied up the wiring, fitted a new throttle cable and bonnet release cable after the last one snapped at this years MOT.
A raptor binicle and mount were fitted after the original disintigrated.

Call it a 4 yearly service haha

Other than that shes still going strong and earning her keep.

Once i get the engine back in ill let you know if its even remotely slowed the leak down.
