I'm unsure of what you've checked, but I would -

Clean sedimenter (undo by top bolt, rather than drain)

Fuel filter replace.

Air filter replace.

Check air hoses (any smoke on power loss?)

Then lift pump (Delphi is about £25 inc delivery and gasket, but don't forget to buy nuts and olives).

Make sure there are no air leaks when you replace the lift pump - some clear nylon to the IP is very useful.

Checked nothing at the minute...I'll chuck up a picture of the air filter to see what you all think of it. It's conical in shape and has no cover, don't know if this is normal or if it could lead to problems. Tbh I wouldn't even know what make it is to replace it!

A 300tdi disco element is about £3.50. If yours is a stock part, then, for that money, its not really worth considering - just replace it.

If youre not sure what it is, take a photo, and someone will, im sure, know.

A conical element stuck on the end of the intake manifold is probably some generic thing the person who did the TDi conversion stuck on there. Don;t worry about it for the moment - that's likely not your problem. This was someone's attempt not to deal with the oil-bath air cleaner...

Here's some pics to give you an idea of whats going on, everything looks ok to me but maybe you lot can spot something thats amiss...

Air Intake...this is the only thing that looked as though it could be causing problems as the air intake pipe is crushed against the washer bottle and has a split in it...would that make a difference?

And finally, the lift pump itself...
