how do lovely people.

i have a small conundrum!! i have a series 3 which i removed a V8 from, mainly due to fuel consumption!! HIGH!! i bought a 300tdi engine and realised once i had it that id have to cut the galv chassis in order to mount new engine mounts. not something i want to do. So, now I'm after a 200tdi as I've heard they slot straight onto the original engine mounts! its this correct? my other option would be to put an original 2.25 petrol in it, but they seem to be thin on the ground!!! any help would be massively appreciated as I'm losing faith at the mo!!!

Discovery 200tdi will fit straight in depending on whether you have an 88 or 109. A defender 200tdi will need a new engine mount welded on or swap the timing case for the disco version.

Disco 200 will fit ,but the turbo / exhaust can be tight ,defender 200 or 300 manifold can solve this problem ,defender 200 wont fit without modification due to shape of timing case

I recently fitted a 300 to my lightweight ,i also have a galv chassis and didnt want to cut and weld it so i made a remote oil filter and new engine mount ,search for my threads it wasnt that long ago

I found 200 tdis hard to get and i have a rotten 300 disco so i used the engine i had

Some one designed this bracket to put a 300 into a series.

I've managed to get a 200 for a reasonable-ish price. I've a 300tdi sat in the garage now along with a V8!!! Space is now a premium.

Ah, didn't know that. Also didn't check if it was a disco or defender 200tdi!!! (queue frantic emailing to seller!!!!) lolz. Landies don't half test your patience!

Is the turbo at the top level with inlet manifold or lower down ? defender engines tend to go for alot more

Thats defender chassis only ,series chassis mount stabs the oil filter on a standard 300

Ah! the life of a landy! leaves factory with just about adequate original engine, gets converted to V8, NOW GETS converted to TDI................. what's the betting in 10 years time it'll be getting batteries and a DC Motor!

To be fair - and I understand your reluctance to cut the galvinised - the cut and weld is going to be in the one place they DON'T rust - especially as your about to put a leaky oil burner right on top! Excellent prep and paint - with something high zinc and it'll probably be fine - what size/condition the spare V8?

Just the thought of cutting it brings tears to my eyes!! The v8 is the old 3.5L rover unit. She ran ok when it was in, the carb probably needs fettling tho. She had an Essex V6 carb on it at one point. Which I still have. It sounded epic but everytime I revved it I could of just thrown a quid out of the window. Just my luck the petrol drops below a pound a liter.
