Trying to remove the damn fuel stop solenoid from the injection pump, fashioned all manner of spanners, no joy. Any ideas to help remove. Stupid question, but it's definitely a normal thread? Lefty loosey righty righty?

Thanks for the reply..spanner is no issue, just can't get the damn thing to turn, whoever designed it didn't really think overly hard. If I grind anymore off the spanner itll be too weak to loosen. I'll have a coffee and try again.

Make sure you have not got the tip of the spanner caught between the solenoid and the pump body as you try to turn it, I ground the tip off of my 24mm spanner so it could not be pinched on the tip of it, plus ground the sides of it right down to allow it to fit on the solenoid without hitting the bracket.

Same here, it's got to be short too which doesn't help with leverage , disco 200 in a 110.
 
Thanks all, think I'm gonna have to buy a crows foot spanner, I have fashioned a spanner that will get in the area, without hitting the pump body, but the solenoid itself is super tight, I worry if there's corrosion on the thread, which would mean moisture, which would mean, bad! Though it may just be because of the angle I cannot get the right leverage. I'll try a crows foot and see what happens. thanks
 
Try knocking it round a bit with a cold chisel to break the hold then spanner it.
Thinking back I think I had to do that.

Though it may just be because of the angle I cannot get the right leverage. I'll try a crows foot and see what happens. thanks

Can you not get a box spanner on it, with a bar ?
 
I haven't had to change the FIP solenoid but, a good soaking with plusgas and some gentle heat will always release a stubborn thread. Soak for a good day or so, then heat, let to cool a little and...

Don't melt the 'O' rings in there if you want to reuse it. Large one in the distributor head as well.
I'd tw@t it loose with a chisel/punch first.

I agree, not my first port of call to use heat.

@NightShadow91 is the pump still in the car? if it is take it out and put it in a vice. Is not a difficult job to do with the right kit.

I've got a replacement solenoid - FLAG germany and also a genuine Bosch, gonna use the bosch once the bugger is loose. So everything new. I was going to take the pump out, but just thought it would be a quick enough fix, even with the awkward position.
 
No joy here, tried loosening the thread overnight and weekend with plusgas and wd40 anti thread penetrative spray, whacking it about a bit and a crows foot spanner filed down. Not touching anywhere when trying to undo and still a pig to get out. Has anyone else had such issues removing? I will have to remove the pump, but was really hoping not too. Tried heat and everything. I guess the only logical scenario is that it's seized due to corrosion on the thread? Unless it's just never been replaced. Ta

No Joy, heat, lubricant, anti seize plusgas, tapping, spanners, crows foot spanners, she's not budging. Never had such grief removing before. Time to remove the injection pump. Thanks all.
 
I guess the only likely reason is it's cross threaded somehow? I didn't put it in, so must have been the previous owner. The LT77 oil drain plug also has a crack originating from there and shooting up the casement, so I guess I'm cleaning up after a heavy handed previous owner who liked to over tighten everything !
