So i've searched many threads regarding using an engine stand but most threads now have broken images.

I've read that you can attach the engine to the stand using the holes where the bell housing studs are. So i can remove 4 studs like the one pointed to in the picture, they seem to have a depth of about 25mm. Use some high tensile M10 bolts that are 25mm + depth of stand hole.
Is this really enough to support the engine?

Also my stand has a max weight 680kg, so that should be ok.

Any advice much appreciated.

When I did mine i bolted it straight to the block, i don't know how strong the aluminium casing it for supporting the weight of the engine. ..

Thanks for the advice. I wanted to keep the work to a minimum so I might just use a wooden pallet this time.

I have wedged the sump into a sutiable tyre. Holds the motor firmly upright, better than wedges that can slip out.

Doubt the sump will take the weight, so you will need to put blocks, either side of it, so it sits on the sump flange/outer edge of the block. Be very careful though, it it moves  ya goosed.

sump will take the weight, just need a block to support the front edge

ive read bits it will be interesting to see results
It's worth a bash.
Interestingly, and I don't think I'm imagining this, it seems to be pulling even better with the glaze bust oil in!
Proof will be in the oil consumption afterwards though.

The only caveat to this thought is, I've only been running on snow since I put that oil in. The extra smoothness, created by the snow, may be making me think it's pulling harder and going faster. :(
We'll soon see.

Engine is out and on the pallet. Used extra blocks of wood either side of the sump to spread the weight. Also wedged long bits of wood either side to prevent it from falling over. Seems pretty stable. Cheers for all your advice.

I sat mine on blocks the same way. Left the engine crane over it with the sling taking a tiny bit of weight, just to be safe.
