I am in the process of rebuilding my 1988 90 200tdi conversion on a galvanised chassis after an MOT failure and the discovery of extensive rust. I bought a 300tdi chassis on ebay for much cheaper than it would have been from the manufacturers, however now I have to overcome the problem of the different engine mountings. The 300 mounts sit slightly further back on the chassis than the 200. As the chassis is galvanised I would rather not just grind them off and start again but if this is the only option I will do it. I have been told that the mounts on the block are in the same place on both the 200 and 300 engines but if I just swap these mounts and sit the engine further back on the chassis it will, foul the bulkhead/transmission tunnel, the gear lever will be in the wrong place and the prop shafts will be the wrong length. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Your help will be greatly appreciated!

i believe it will all be moved back, resulting in gear leaver in the wrong place, shorter rear prop, longer front. the engine might clear the bulkhead i dont know. the engine mounts might be in a different place on the 200 and 300 i dont know.

you wouldnt be able to weld the engine brackets unless all the galv is grinded back in that area.

I believe that the block is the same for both 200 and 300, so fixing position on both is the same. Also, I think that the bell housing is a slightly different shape and the 300tdi has the R380 gearbox, so the engine sits slightly further back but the gear lever remains in the right place. What i need to do is keep the engine and gearbox in the right place but sit it on the existing chassis mounts somehow?

think ull hav to move the mounts. Ino that if you put a 200tdi into a TD then you can use the original engine mounts, if you try and stick a 300tdi you hav to move them else it wont fit, so i guess youll hav a similar problem!

im doin the 200 tdi out of my fender and 300 tdi goin in..

i have to cut out the 300 tdi engine mounts out of the disco and reweld them into the fender..

so i guess you have no choice either
