Thanks payydg, this is what I keep reading, keep the viscous. As an engineer, it goes against the grain a little knowing there's some power loss due to the viscous and that I've had big success using Revotec fans on other cars for many years + I like the 'control' that this type of system gives with an adjustable thermostat and master control switch. Inversely, the original system appears to work well especially with the fan/radiator shroud. Confusingly, I've read that many folk run their Landies with no shroud and see no difference at all.
Now, that's just made me more confused...

After my rebuild, I left my shroud off, mainly because some lazy **** cut it when doing some work on it in the past. I haven’t seen a difference in running temps, other than it takes an age to warm up now I have a new radiator fitted (damaged the old one while rebuilding, but tried to get away with it).
Personally, I wouldn’t fit the shroud, but that’s my opinion.

I prefer the electric fan my 200tdi defender warms up quicker and the fan hardly ever comes on think in summer it came on a few times when weather was hot and sat in traffic. Also had it come on couple times when driving it hard off road I've got the thermostat set to come on just when temp gauge moves away from middle(normal running). Would highly recommend the revotec fan easy to fit and set up.
