K-Seal or Barr's Leaks aren't perfect fixes, but if it works...

Out of interest, Jaguar put two bottles of Barr's into new V12 engines. Which says a number of things, but one is that it can't be too harmful.
 
So long as you keep water in it she'll be fine. Tip some of the stuff in as suggested and ride it till you find what you need. That's what I did.
 
I used some of the central heating equivalent on a faulty radiator in a friend's house. It looked like a manufacturing defect rather than electrolytic erosion. It's been fine through three winters now.
 
If you look carefully you can see a rusty hole and the staining below, the hole is between the core plugs.

Could that be welded?

Or has it rusted through? Frost damage?

Try k-seal and see how it goes, might have years left in it. Find a block and rebuild at your leisure

Thats the plan I chucked some of that type of stuff in it yesterday, I'm also going to put some metal epoxy over the area when I get a chance. This will give me time to look for a block and get it reconned then I'mm do the swap, its not a big hole so I'm hoping I can block it up for now.

I still can't get the heater working lile your though which is very sad.

Sounds like a plan, you going to recon it yourself or pay someone?

I have asked the guy that helped me build my engine to look out for a tdi block. Do you want me to ask if he will rebuild it as a short engine to?

As for heater is the Thermostat okay?

Mine was mediocre until I fitted a genuine waxstat thermostat, then the engine actually got up to temp, and I spent a while working n the flap settings
 
Ok, the car has been sealed till Friday when the Steele Seal let go and its leaking again. I'm going to bit the bullet and take the manifolds off, rub the engine down degrease it and then apply JB Weld to the hole, I'll take photo's.
 
The leak sealer got you another six months, which wasn't too bad at all.

Weld is difficult on cast , did you consider drilling into the leak spot and then tapping it and putting in a 1/4 bsp plug?

Are you thinking I'm going to weld it, if so sorry, I'm actually going to put a layer of JB Weld over it (the epoxy glue). I did think about drilling it, but I don't know how weak it will be around the hole.

I know what you mean and its easy to sit here giving advice, but if it is weak around the failure might be as well to find out now rather than do a load of work only for it to start weeping again, could be as well to get a good idea of the full size of the problem, and know your enemy.
Sorry I thought you were looking at welding, it can be done but localized heating on a casting can be a problem.
Probably the JB weld could do the job but might be best to give it a good key, over the years I have seen a few porous castings (not on vehicle engines) and they often are quite localized where you may have a small blow hole in the iron which will start to leak over time hopefully it may be very small and easily contained.
 
Yes I agree, I'm going to give it a dam good key with a dremel and clean metal with thinners to ensure there is no greese as well. I'll put some pictures up here when done. If this does not work I'll probably put a new lump in when I can. But it really is running well exept the leak so I hope this works.
 
Ok, I had a couple of hours this morning so the manifolds are off and I can now get at the offending hole, this is it prior to clean up (waiting for my dremel today).

The plan will be to either;

a) clean it up and put JB Weld over the area

or

b) clean it up and put a small screw in the hole, then put JB Weld over the area

I'm going to ensure the area is super clean and roughed up before the JB Weld goes on, then I will leave it for a couple of days before starting the car.
