Hi All.
I need some help with the disco 200tdi fitted to my series 3. It has the usual modification where the alternator is moved and positioned in the same place as on a 2.25. I recently went to change the belt using a 200tdi fan belt as i belive this is the one generally reccomended. Unfortunatly i could not get it to fit. It seems that compared to the one that is on it is a much wider section, meaning it sits further out on the pulleys and therefore wont fit over them all. The one that is on seems to be the same as the one on the 2.25 diesel which i took out. I recently replaced the alternator with a non-lucas one, but cannot see any difference in size or design that would precent it from being pushed over to get the belt on.
So, my questions are. What belts are everyone else running? Will i do any harm running a smaller section belt on the disco pulleys? I have feeling that the chirruping noise i've been getting is the belt as its not a perfect fit. It goes away with a spray of belt lube, but its back the next day.
Your thoughts would be greatly apprecited.
Ric
