im finally putting a disco 200tdi into my 2.5 petrol 90.

i have the petrol out and gettin ready to put the 200 in, my question is should i do the timing while the engine is on the floor or will i put it into the 90 first?

also are those flywheel locking pins necessary or can i do without one?

thanks

yes its so much easier and you don't need timing pins just a good old bottle of tip ex to mark all the pulleys

Much easier with engine in, Rad out.

Got a fighting chance of un-doing the bottom pulley bolt then!

Yeah thats the only reason i was considering doing it in the engine bay. and when theres nothing in the way it shouldn't make much difference?

also for removing the viscous fan.. i know its a lefty thread but the belt keeps slippin! anyone got ant tips for that besides holding with a stiltson if that'd even work?

Silton's or.. a pair of mole grips (I could not find my Siltons) and a few sharp taps to the spanner to shock the bolt off :)

lovely thanks for that!
will prob be next weekend before i get the ****er in as iv no flat trailer to move engine to garage now

If that don't work, There are 4 bolts on the pulley (Behind the fan, it is quite tight to get a spanner on them), undo them and the pulley and fan will come off in 1 go. Wack the pulley in a vice undo the fan :)

Got the fan off anyway.. used a mole grips, adjustable spanner and a hammer to tap adjustable around.

Seems i just didn't try hard enough last time ;)
