guys,

200tdi air filter housing. drain plug is blocked with a solicon blanking plug and a jubilee clip. all the rest of the hoses are silicon , intact and tight.

Question is how can i seal the join between the bottom and top parts of the filter housing where it unscrews?
Up to now i have been using amalgamating tape but its messy tbh and wondered of there was a more 'elegant' solution.
By sealed i mean water sealed for the snorkel.

Hi Flat,

Not sure what the 200tdi filter housing looks like, but on my 90 300tdi, I use a bead of rtv , refit the front cover and then insulation tape around the circumference.

When tested it causes the engine to stall and has not allowed any water in so far.

I use a large o-ring and stretch it around the joint so when you fit the lid and screw it down it seals nicely between the two.

Have you sealed the drain on the inner wing hidden right at the bottom out of sight?

Look at the pic and you can see the green o-ring between the filter halves

grabbed this photo of google - rovers north apparently.
It unscrews via a knob and comes into 2 pieces.

with self-amalg on it stalls but with it off it doesnt, it alsmost does but not quite and on a laning trip recently i found water in my air filter (not much) so i guess it isnt sealed that great

i dont have that, air box goes straight to snorkel - mine was an NA originally so doesnt have the wing intake and my snorkely i ran out through the top of the wing. is that the drain point your talking about?

No sorry as its in the 200 section i assumed it was a std 200 set up like mine.

If the n/a has the metal canister type the o-ring would still work
 
I have a different version of filter but welded the drain up and fitted a pnuematic fitting so I can manually check / drain.
Taped the joint on mine but do not have snorkel, just pre filter high in rear of engine bay..

Nah it’s cool, everything under the bonnet is 200tdi - airbox is 200tdi and snorkel is NA - I had a reducing diameter silicon hose made to marry the 2 up. No need for an apology, I should have been clearer!
 
With my Disco I ditched the tin can and went after market.

Stalls my 200 if I cup my hand over the top of the snorkel.
 
Guys, just because you put your hand over the intake and the engine stalls doesn't mean there isn't a leak somewhere, it just means any leaks arnt big enough to feed an engine with the correct amount of air.
And it only takes an egg cup full of water to lock up an engine and snooker it, if I was building a snorkel for wading I would smoke test it under pressure.

Hi, new land rover owner here. I have a 200tdi dropped into a 1985 ex MOD 110 which has the same filter set up as this.

I can't seem to find any info online about it. Any suggestions what to search for, does it have a replaceable filter inside.

Grateful for any advice.
