I've been looking at classified's for a Defender,I see that special mention is made if it has a 300tdi engine, especially if it is in a Landy that originally came out with a 200tdi.What were the problems,if any with the 200tdi donk?Appreciate any replies.

None really. It's a bit noisier than the 300tdi and more difficult to work on eg. cambelt change is easier on a 300tdi because fewer bits have to come off. Depending on where you are it may be easier to get parts for the later engine. Few 200tdi's were sold here in SA as against lots of 300s.

Mines doen 120k and still dont smoke..(does not include the start up puff :D that's massive :D)

Same here, dunno the exact mileage but it had done 67K in 1997. No smoke for me either and it feels very healthy. The 300s are slightly more torquey?

Mate got a 200 disco with 180k on the clock and still has honing marks in the bores, which he noticed when he fitted a gas flowed head the other week.

I've been "sniffing around" a few sites and seen a couple of pick ups with over 100K on the clock. With a pick up ,its unlikely thay were "hot miles" eg long drives, rather short hops.I've aways run "Turbo timers" on my diesel's,yes even in the Uk,but in the states I learned that running down the Turbo is only any use if the whole system as reached a certain temp.I had an exhuast sensor on a Dodge ram and could turn it straight off if it hadn't reached a certain temp, otherwise it would continute to run before switching off by its self,it was an after market device. As I'm in Norway I want to show interest in only the vehicles that are worth a trip over to see.200/300 tdi regardless.I do appreciate the replies you are all giving. So if you know of anyone selling a good honest landy.............

Go for the 300 tdi 1994 0nwards also better other bits
gearbox tranfer box ?? etc etc

Shoot me down lads

Boy that hurttttttt

Yes, if you are buying a 'package', the 300tdi/R380 is much better than the 200tdi/LT77, the LT230 being the same. Changing gear with a LT77 is like pot luck, you never know which gear you will get next.

I have never had any problems with my LT77... goes into the gear I want it to go into.

Banned LRUK members club

I just noticed that.
Congratulations!

How can I get banned by LRUK memebrs club?
Would I have to join first?

Are they a mob of snooty toffee noses ?

We should run a competition to see who can come up with the best reason to get banned!

I still want to know what the qualifications are tom get banned by LRUK.

I'm only an amateur, but if getting banned by LRUK would increase my status, then I am up for it.

Who else has been banned, and what for?

Upset Berine Hayden and you will get banned... he owns most of the site, and likes to pick his members... he's full of it..
