Hello all!

I'm looking for a 200 mpi lump and transmission. They are pretty rare and it is exactly what i need to give my 1971 MGB a little bit more go.

I live in Stranraer so it would be great if there was one near here or an engine and box sitting in some ones garage that i could arrange to be put on a pallet.

Cheers for any help.

Jack

2.0 mpi engines are hard to come by......I have a 300 series 2.0mpi on lpg, currently off the road as she needs some welding done for test. The engine is the same as the rover 820 16v T20 engine. Trans from the disco won't fit unless you are planning on making it 4x4.

if i get an engine from a disco MPI it makes it a little easier as it has the throttle bodies on the right side. Problem with taking a T series out of other rovers is that they are all set for front wheel drive.

The MPI's use rover 830 Gear boxes don't though? i understand that they can fit in a MGB's transmission tunnel with out to much adjustment.

R380 was used in 300 series, lt77 in 200 series, lt77 used in the sd1 aswell btw.

Transfer case makes the landy 4wd, the gearbox will work for a rwd car, but you may need to speak to Ashcroft transmissions to get the correct output shaft for a rwd car.

Cheers

you would be better off with a 1800 K series out of a lotus or a caterham, it weighs less and produces more power, plus there are conversion kits to use a ford type9 5speed 'box which is lighter than a lt77 and an r380 plus comes with a choice of ratios as they were used in everything ford rwd, quaffe for a sequential 'box based on it for the serious driver........

but to be honest i wouldn't use a K series ...... i would use a 2.0l zetec out of a mondeo it'll cost about the same but break down less........

Did u think about the fact that u can't check the ECM with the engine out? .......and without that it's not enough just to fit the engine and transmission. The only disco i've found with 2.0 petrol engine is the 20T4 on which u can't even adjust the idle speed only through the ECM. I have a friend who've struggled to fit an other kind of engine(i dont remember what but a rare one) on his Patrol and after everything was settled it turned out that the ECM was busted and never found a spare one so everything back). Anyway, maybe it helps here are the characteristics(if that is the one u are talking about)

I would think twice about the K series engine as they can give problems if they have been neglected.

I would think about putting a Ford granada lump in. You should be able to pick up a 2.9 cosworth complete car for under £300 in poor condition and everything you need.

What could be more fun for the money 2.9 V6 24v engine with 200 bhp and rwd.

if you use an aftermarket ecu you can do what you like to it....

the granny cosworth lump is a boat anchor it weighs about 60 squillion tons and is as wide as a house (being bassed on the cologne engine) also the fact it has had a cosworth badge fitted means it will have had the tits thrashed off it

another option would be the Mazda rotary 13b engine 1300cc turbocharged kicking out somewhere between 200 and 300 horsepower depending on what its got stuck on the side.... they have massive potential too

if the MPI is based on the Rover "T" series injun - wots wrong with fitting the 220/620 turbo - the 220turbo can put out upwards of 300BHP.

I personally would go for a 2.0L zetec running on carbs and a T9 5 speed box, but thats just me.

Or if you want a lot less hassle go for a mazda mx5 engine and box and ECU.....Reliable as hell and a very simple implant.
