I just bought this from my brother and love the car but I'd like to update the sat nav disk as I guess it's old. It says WIY500200 and 1993-2005 NAVTEC. I can see from various posts they are expensive, is there a cheap option? Or, plan B might be to take it out and find something newer? I have never trusted sat navs that only update traffic via a radio signal, prefer my phone... or does google navigation and Tom Tom rely on radio as well?
Sorry I've crammed several questions in :)

If it a C/D based satnav your best option is to upgrade it to a dvd unit out of a bmw or later mini, newer dvd disc`s are available for them.

Thank you. Do you know if the radio based traffic updates are any good in comparison to Tom Tom... I am trying to decide whether to bother as my phone happens to be exactly the same size as the sat nav screen so it's easy just to lean the phone up there.
UPDATE: I have found the RDS TMC info, so understand that now. So can anyone be more specific about what BMW or Min version/year, I need to look for and how I check how old the CD that comes with it is?
