Hi guys, i am new so please be nice. I have just bought a 2007 RR supercharged. Unfortunately i have just realised that the lower tailgate doesn't open. When i press the button on the tailgate there is no sound at all, its as if its dead. I have checked the fuses and they seem fine. Will it be a case of just replacing the switch or do i have more serious problems!! Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi, Welcome, You will get moaned at for not using the 'introduce yourself' section but at least your not asking what size tyres will fit. It sounds like its the switch to be honest, you may find more help in the RR section on here but it seems a pretty simple fix TBH.

Hi, thanks for you reply. Sorry, was hoping someone might move the thread for me. There is a switch for sale on ebay for about £15, think i'll give that a go and see if it works. I just wondered if it was a common problem or anyone else had experienced it? I did read on a american site about having to break the plastic section from inside the boot (trunk) to get it to open. They do like to steam in though!

Hi before you buy any parts check your fuses etc ! The fuse is maybe the same fuse as fuel cap !! Or interior lights ! Are any of these not working ??? Assumption is the mother of all fu-- ups !!!!next take switch out and check it with a multimeter , if it'd dodgy short the two wires and see if it operates the release selonoide in rear lower door ! If at this point your fuse blows then you may have a fault in the rear door wiring !! This means you will have to manually open door to gain access to the wiring etc !! Good luck

If the tailgate switch operates in the same way as on the new freelancer it is negative switching. There could be a broken wire in the rubber conduit that links between the bodywork and the tailgate itself through constant flexing.

My 2007 full-size SC's lower tailgate button quit working 3 days ago. The upper would open just fine, but the button for the lower wouldn't make any noise when pushed and wouldn't release the tailgate. In a last-ditch attempt to figure out SOMEthing about it this morning I discovered that the button hadn't quite returned to the full "up" position. It looks like it got hung up on the forward edge of the surrounding plastic. I massaged the button a little and it popped back up and is now functioning properly. Hope this helps some other poor lost soul who has been breaking their back lifting things in and out over the closed gate :)

Also there’s a manual release for the lower tailgate on the latches each side - move the lever to release the latch.

Makes it easier to get into the tailgate if needed.

Thanks for this. I have just had the same problem and although I had massaged it a bit myself before reading your post I just went out again and had another go -this time with a very thin piece of plastic and traced round the button - hey presto - up it popped - all working perfectly now.

Thanks for posting this useful tip.
