There is a grinding noise and the window is down as far as it could possibly go ..
The cables have failed by the sounds of it. It's a 30 minute job, maybe an hour for a first timer.
It's in mechanics now getting some work done not related to window it's the most frustrating vehicle ever.
On the whole, the Freelander is very good. I favour them over many cars of a similar age.

Okay, not sure this has been answered, but here goes. So battery died, replaced. Window down, re-set attempted, erm a number of times, using all the hints and tips previously given.

Reset operations tried. ...

Using fob/key rear window action good.
Using cabin switch rear window action good.
Engine off/running.
Battery connected /reconnected.
Doing it whilst driving / stationary.
Waiting 10 sec - 30 mins.
Pushing window a little into the door recess, worked for others.
Check rubber seals and whether the impede progress of the window.
Well you get the idea and frustration here.

However, everytime the window gets to the top. Bleep Bleep, and that's just for the language! And then it descends into the door recess. It like the blue screen issue for MS Windows past!

Any ideas from anyone more clever than me? My only idea left, is get the CCU reset or checked and saving a fee/drink.

If the window isn't staying up, then the CCU isn't getting the window up confirmation from the window motor sensor. This could be due to a timing error with the window cables, or the sensor has failed, which has happened in the past.

With Thanks, I'll have a look at that, I just thought I'd avoid pulling panels and doing the cable, as it is I hard to do this on two doors. Oh well...

So, did take the rear door card off and found, broken cable ties and the wire wedged behind the window stopping it retracting completely. Re-located and voila! Now to replace the cables on the car doors, can't be that hard, can it?
