My first post here so Hi Everybody!

I've just got a 2005 Freelander TD4 and so far it's great

However, I'm a bit disappointed there's no power socket for the rear seats. It would be the ideal place for a phone charger etc.

I thought I could fit a dual power outlet in the space next to the fuses (below the instrument panel) to run a GPS and Phone Charger. This would be the ideal place for it.

I've looked at the fitting diagrams for the Auxiliary power socket (STC50468), as I'd like to use the existing wiring where possible for a switched source.

However, the aux socket kit seems to connect to the socket on the fuse box (C594) and the battery. Why two connections?

Does anyone know if the centre pin in C594 is the 20A fused supply (Fuse 10) for the Aux socket, or is it simply a switching source for a Battery-Socket direct connection?

Replying to my own question... perhaps the fuse box socket is used for the centre console power socket (not fitted on mine) hence whilst the fuse socket can provide 20A, the aux (loadspace) socket only uses this as a switch for its own direct connection?

ON MY (v6) THERE IS A POWER SOCKET IN THE BACK OF THE CENTRE CONSOLE BY THE ASHTRAY - MAYBE WIRING IS ALREADY THERE?

Hi,

New to this forum but been lurking a while.

Anyway, Landrover sells the power socket which just pops in in place of the blanking plate. Costs about £17 plus vat. For some reason the power socket is not standard, even on the HSE.

I went to Halfords, bought a lighter socket, drilled a hole in the blanking plate, connected up to the existing connectors within the console and all dne and dusted. Took me about 10 minutes because I didnt have a hole the correct size.

Really easy. I use the socket to power a portable DVD for my little boy when we are travelling any distance.

On my MY01 Td4 as well at the same place, (see pic), just in case someone was wondering this was only on V6's.

didnt mean to confuse - can only talk for the v6 - as thats wot i got - well the garage has got - well I aint talkin FOR the V6, just about it ...... yu know wot i mean...

Thanks for the info all. I didn't know the centre console socket was available as an accessory. Sounds like the best plan for a the phone charger

I'd like to wire the GPS power supply to the dash, so I'd still like to know if the socket on the fuse box does what I think.

I guess it's a job for the multimeter

Although I am not positive about this - my guess is that the Battery connection is the current supply and the fuse connection is the triggering circuit. If a relay is fitted in the line somewhere, then the trigger wire switches the relay "on" so that current can be drawn straight from the battery. Surprised the trigger needs to be 20A tho.

That's what I was thinking. The "Auxiliary Socket" accessory actually provides power to a socket in the loadspace/boot. It seems to have an direct connection to the battery with an inline fuse and a relay.

I think the 20A feed is to power the rear centre console "aux" socket, and also switches the relay for the loadspace aux socket.

Confusing Huh?
