Hi,
We have been chasing a fault on our L322 (horn not working) for the MOT, which has escalated into bigger problems. Originally diagnosed was the wheel slip ring as the cruise and voice control buttons have also died over a period of months. After changing the slip ring, it did not resolve the issue, however we then noticed the ignition switch barrel was worn and sticking with the key in, so this was replaced, since replacing the Barrel, ( The Existing transponder and key was retained) we are unable to start the engine. We can get the ignition lights on (with Ignition Solenoid out) but it will not turn over. We suspect the Transponder has lost the relationship to the key although they are the same units. We have a Testbook T4 with software 5.06 installed with the correct leads etc, however it fails when it tried to connect to the ECU's. The Testbook is an ex- Rover system we use for our MG race cars and works fine with the MEMS Ecu's. Anyone got any ideas or have tell me if we have the wrong Testbook software installed?
Many thanks in advance for ideas.
Ashley.

The normal reason for lack of comms on those is the headlight levelling ecu. Pinky/Purply, fag packet sized ecu at the bottom of the nearside A pillar. It was common for them to fill up with water and grow green gunge across all the pins in the multiplug. If that is the case with yours then unplug it,throw it away and just clean the gunge off the plug.If its not that you need the wiring diagrams and do basic wiring checks/fuses etc. I don't see many of these early L322's now,but back in the day they were an absolute pleasure to use Testbook on,5.06 software is fine, any of the discs I had from about 12 up 20 seemed to work perfectly. Are you using the individual red connector or the later switched unit ?
Once you get comms go into "Systems Diagnostics" as this will shortcut you to the individual ecu or system you are after. You can also go into vehicle configuration and remove headlight levelling if it still has it.The system was flawed and the car is better without it.One of the problems I think was that it ran on the K bus, which is also what the diagnostic connector runs through.

Hi Eightinavee,
Thanks for the response, will check the headlight levelling ECU ( The car has the xenon lights, which initialise correctly) , I have the wiring diagrams, and have gone through the testbook diagnostic suggestions but it was all ok. We are using the later main lead with the red connector as testbook requires.
Will let you know what we find.

Hi Eightinavee,
Have disconnected the headlight levelling ECU which was dry and showing no signs of corrosion, Unfortunately it has not resolved the testbook issue, so will have to resort to the wiring diagrams and start to disconnect some of the auxiliary ECU's to see if that will resolve the Testbook connection issues.
Thanks.

Just a thought before you delve into the depths of the wiring diagrams... I would first try your Testbook on another car to prove it is correct and working. I'll have a quick look in my Rave data, which is in my T4 at work if I get a chance, refresh my memory on how early Fullfat's do their comms.
