I would like some advice on the auto gearbox please.

My car has done 75000 miles and is now 11 years old. It is serviced once a year by a general, non specialist garage. We have owned it since 2010.

I believe the auto gearbox oil should have been changed at 60000 miles/5 years. Is that correct?

If so, this has been over looked and never been done (certainly not since we owned it). The autobox is running perfectly smoothly and the car only has very light use and does 5000 miles a year.

If it does need to be changed I am concerned that by disturbing things I may cause a problem that is not there as it is so over due??

Also, should this job only be done by a garage that is used to doing them and follows a certain procedure - ie the main dealer or specialist indy?

Any advice please.

Thanks

There is an excellent thread on here about changing the Jatco oil.

You need to read up on it first even if you don't do it, so you can make sure it is done properly.

It is not straight forward.

Thanks Guys. It is not something I will do myself.

Is there any possibility that by changing the oil you can disturb things inside and cause a problem that may not have happened (even if job done absolutely right)?

The only problem with changing the oil is as mentioned above, taking the wrong bolt out and losing reverse.

The oil needs to be changed at a certain temperature with the engine running to get the right level.

Read the thread.

Otherwise it is just the same as changing your engine oil.
