No, I didn't have the codes read. I checked the seat belt pre-tensioner connections as I understand they can cause problems but they seemed fine. As I was placing an order for some other bits, I thought I would risk 40 quid on a clock spring at the same time. It's not easy to find someone who can read the airbag codes where I am in rural Spain!
Just because they seem fine doesn't meant they are good, they can have a minor loose/corroded connection that you won't notice by casual inspection that can cause the light to come on.
As said once it's on it stays on, so you could wiggle a 'good' connection to trigger the light

I can second this. I've had two pretensioners fail and you wouldn't have known anything was wrong with them by inspecting them. The icarsoft will tell you which component is putting the light on
