Ok guys, I've just acquired a 2004 prop for £60 anything I should look out for on this scary beastie??

The prop... check the universal joints move ok and there's no damage to the outer case bit which holds the bearings in.

It looks ok in the dark, seems to move freely. Just got pinion to get and hopefully it all works in situ. Just worried about IRD teeth on inside.

I assume your FL1 has an IRD blanking plate fitted?
If so the props/vcu were probably removed for a reason. Converting from 4x4 to front wheel drive only is the cheapest fix when there's a problem. Doesn't always mean there's a problem, but more often the case there was. Be it the vcu failing and the owner didn't want to replace it or further problems like ird or rear diff trouble.
Further investigation is required to find out the problem if the previous owner won't say.

Well previous owner is my misses nephew, he stopped driving it because of a banging. I got it off the road and every rotation there was a bang and a thud. So I removed the prop, on doing so solved the thud. I then progressed to blank it off. On removing the pinion I found that two of the teeth had between 1/2 & 3/4inch chips but the rest off pinion had a sound body with no visual cracks or fractures.
Draining the IRD never produced a large amount of metal or metal shavings. Just getting round to getting it on ramp is difficult bit.

That's new prop bit of scrape damage, moving parts work well. Fingers crossed for the rest
