Im currently looking at buying a 2003 Discovery TD5. It has 60000 on the clock with a full main dealer service history, and checks out all ok on the HPI check. One thing that I do have a niggle in my mind about is that when started it on ocassion will not go on the first turn of the key, and sounds like the starter motor spins but nothing else. On the second turn it starts perfectly everytime. Anyone got any ideas as it's driving me mad. Plus if there is anything else I should be looking at please shout out i'm a Landrover virgin and help is very much appreciated.
:)

hi pal,
sounds like the ring gear in the starter's playing up...
they're not expensive to replace so if you're getting her at a good price,go for it and get the new starter fitted with the money you save...
there's ALWAYS room for a bargain!!!...
hope this helps,enjoy your day...Del.

Thanks for that Del,
As i said in my post im totally new to this so it always makes me weary of even smallest problem. As far as realistic price for said Disco what would anyone think is about right. Its up for £9499 what you all think. It is in mint condition??

£9.5k is a bit steep for a 2003 with at least 1 problem that you know of,but if its as good as you say then who am i to say?...:scratching_chin:
i'd say your looking at £8k for cash and you'll be doin ok at that...
its not really the best idea asking a SCOTSMAN about money!!!...:hysterically_laughi
at the end of the day,its only worth what you're willing to pay and not a penny more...
hope this helps, good luck and 'Awe Ra Best'...Del.:5bcheers2:

Thats good-you can say you want a service & the starter done & go in at £8700 ish??

I did speak to the guy yesterday and said that I wanted it serviced and the starter motor looking at. His answer to this was that it is reduced at this price and is unwilling to go down any lower. He offered a ****ty looking extended warranty by Motorcare that doesn't look worth the paper its written on to be honest, and looking at reviews on google it was confirmed over and over. It is one of those take it or leave it attitudes really. :(

in that case if you think its worth it go for it, as long as its tidy & there are no obvious signs of any other probs

Thanks for all your responses, it's good to hear others opinions on these things. I will let you know how I get on with things in the next few weeks, fingers crossed now I think

I just bought an 04 for 10k in good nick had an issues with suspension but i have sorted that now. That's a good price for this parrot thecountry most of the ones I looked atwede11 to 12 k

Which part of the country are you?
I found the same locally to me, (Tamworth Staffs), the average here is nearer 10.5k for something the same with equivalent mileage.
I feel a little better now you have said that :)
