any ideas, when I switch off the engine and take the key out the steering column automatcally minimizes. If I have the wheel turned slightly then I get a load sqeeking noise when it does this. I presume it is a bush/washer type issue within the steering column?

If thats the only problem you have i would be eternally thankful. A squirt of WD40?

This is a very common problem.

WD40 is only a short-term cure.

Remove the panel below the steering wheel and apply LM Grease to the mechanism.
