Well, my Dad was Jockanese and I had never heard of Buckfast Tonic Wine, despite having lived in the village of Buckfast for two years :D... I only learned of it's existsence when covering a story, for the Daily Express, after Trading Standards prosecuted the monks (the wine was brought by tanker from France)

SEE WOT I MEAN... Its not enough that these monks sneaked their way over to England & introduced their horrid brew & then you plead ignorance to its existence you only go some years later & dig a tunnel to make their journey & every other foreign beings just a train ride away..

I was friendly with one of the priests there, he was actually Australian so the tunnel must have taken a bit of digging

I love all this banter & its nice to make new friends but please...can someone tell me a bit about the freelander I bought cos I really don,t know very much about landrovers except only that some people refer to it as a hairdryer or worse. Any technical advice including where to source parts ect & where I can buy a used drivers seat or how to repair a worn bolster and where to get advice on fitting blue tooth or a satnav. I would really be very grateful.

1, t'Internet or local car parts shop.
2. Local scrappy.
3. Who knows, just look for a dead K series (1.8 petrol) in the local scrappy. Loads of them in there with low mileage due to their tendency to self destruct so plenty of good seats available.
4. Don't them things just plug in the ciggy lighter and stick on the windscreen?

I aint keen on things stuck to the windscreen bro but thanks for the info. The next question... everybody mentions the self descruct bit when you say freelander so firstly... what causes them to self destruct & how can I prevent it,, but mostly Why hasn,t anybody come up with a good remedy to stop it occurring ???

Dont forget google search is your friend. It will reveal many internet suppliers, like Paddock etc.

Freelanders were an attempt by landrover to produce an SUV to compete with RAV and similar, which were selling very well.

They didnt have much money for development, and wanted to produce a vehicle that would compete on price, so no expensive transfer box or features.

So the freelander ended up as a bit of a compromise, with some weak spots in the design. It wasnt a problem for most users. Because they dont use them hard, just take the kids to school. then go to work.

Didnt bother landrover, the cars sold well, and most were happy. Some users who bought them for hard landrover use were disappointed, but arguably they should cough up and get a bigger landy, with transfer box.

In addition, the vehices havent now been made for 16years, so there isnt really any chance of anyone doing anything about it.

It's the K series engines that have a nasty habit of blowing head gaskets Google it and you'll see what I mean, then spend a few days researching it and reading threads here. This was my tuppence worth a while back but read the whole thread. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-ro...ries-hgf-more-data.36863/page-12#post-3449161
Other than the engine faults they have normal old car issues like ball joints, drop links etc.
Plus the leccy windows fail regularly and the boot door handle falls off.
And the drive train gives trouble if the VCU is too tight. Google "one wheel up test"

Other than all them things they're great. :p

LOL, I had two and loved them both. They're great cars and apart from the head gasket issue (which is often grossly exaggerated) mostly reliable.
Drive it and enjoy it but read as much as you can so you can fix it yourself when issues do arise.

Yes, all the rest of the vehicle! :D

Only joking! :) He is right^^^^^^^. They arent too bad if you look after and dont abuse them. My mate has 2 Freelanders, another friend has one, neither seems to have had major issues, they drive them every day.
