I have just bought a discovery 2 manual and it has developed a bad crunch when changing from 1st to 2nd and from 3rd to 2nd. It has been said it may be the syncro gears but it doesn't appear to happen if I press hard on the clutch pedal?

Any ideas? If it is the gearbox how easy is it to replace just the gears? Or how much is a replacement box?

The LR-recommended oil Texaco MTF94, but you can equally use Dexron III atf.

The most important thing is that the oil is changed regularly !!!! It's an easy and cheap job to do, so why wouldn't you?

Texaco MTF 94 is the recommended oil, Dexron III can be used in an emergency, they are different oils.

can be used full time ,box was designed with dexron 2 in mind ,though mtf does seem to help with gear changes ,but when stripping a box run on either there is no difference in wear characteristics,as with most things evidence of lack of oil changes is very common as is wear on the baulk ring dog teeth
