I cocked up my reverse by undoing the wrong bolt, realized this just as I heard a slight sliding noise from within. This was the brake band dropping. A local auto gearbox specialist sorted it out, not cheap £800.......
He said at the time, 8 months ago, that they had sorted out a quite a few of these Jatco boxes that had been stuffed by local garages undoing the wrong bolt, but in general, they were as reliable and durable as any modern autobox.
 
why is that funny its not a long job removing auto box less than a day to remove fix refit,or have you done more than i
 
its an easy job to replace reverse band and would take half hour ,i do them for £260 including remove refit auto box
 
ashcroft do it as i or most would with support across wings holding engine ,remove sub frame complete ,ird and lower to pull box off ,obviously with ramp and right tools , alot are worried that if you do simple repair ,they will be held responsible for all faults later,so sling in recon and shift responsibility,not so many like touching transmissions especially auto ,,some things in transmissions can involve complete strip down but some like reverse band are simple ,there are fewer people who rebuild things nowadays you either get poor fitter training or get a degree and dont get your hands dirty,i did a repair on l322 transfer box the other week dealer nobody at lr dealership knew how it worked
 
That would agree wiff my memories from what I was told at the time. When peeps din’t want to touch it, I asked why. As they din’t want the work, I suppose it din’t bother them ta say. Less faults wiff a recon and no come back, other than having ta replace again if something goes wrong. I can see the logic in that. Especially wiff mine being a v6. Same happened fer the engine change. Cheaper to replace wiff new (during 2003) and spend 10 hours doing it, than strip and sort out the seized stuff at the main dealer. I think they call it “throw away technology”. He won't get another engine or auto...
