5 days ago the engine started running like a bag of nuts on both petrol and gas. When it warms up on gas it does seem to stop messing about but still not as good as i would like it. Possible mis fire.
On petrol it is diffidently mis firing and its is not the plugs or the leads as they have only been renewed. No the coil as its been renewed. Not sure whats wrong as the engine has only 8000 on it as you've guessed it it also has been renewed.
My expert things after putting the magic machine on it that it may be a sensor in the exhaust which is connected to the ecu in some way which changes the mixture.

Are they expensive to replace and where do i get them.

Is this my problem or do you thing its something else.:confused::confused:

My mate has a 4.6 on gas that had a similar problem, would run ok on petrol but would change to gas and run like a bag off rubbish. We connected it to the lpg software which showed both the lambda sensors where reading strange voltages.

Got underneath and the two connectors either side of the sump that go to the sensors had been soaked in oil. Cleaned them up and sprayed them with some electrical stuff which sorted it out.

Don't know whether it will sort your problem but worth a look.

Digel,

The sensors in the exhaust are called Lambda Sensors.

They use a heated element to measure the level of unburnt gasses are present in the exhaust both before and after the Catalytic Convertors.

Often refered to as Oxygen (or O2) sensors they tell the Engine ECU how rich/lean to make the fuelling mixture to maitain both - Good even running and reduced exhaust gasses.

If they are returning incorrect readings to the ECU, the fuelling will be off, and cause similar symptoms to what you are experiencing.

They aren't to expensive....around £35 each....

Thanks for your superior knowledge on these matters. My man has changed the sensor and now running like it should. I will keep in mind the other suggestion as no doubt it will come up sometime. Its a pleasure to have so many knowledgeable people in the one place and who assist people like myself who are very new to Range Rover and the little problems they have. I love to drive my Range Rover but that would be almost impossible if it were not for this site and the knowledgeable people on it.
