I am just new to the forum, I have just bought my first LR Freelander 1.8 s 3 door (today), after my job relocated me to the highlands I jumped at the chance to buy a small 4x4 to have fun with, and have many off road plans!
Due to circumstances I bought the car this morning and within 2 miles I had joined the motorway on the start of an 80mile commute to work. From the moment I left the car jumped and lost power, it’s been sitting a while so I thought that if I gave it 10 mins it would find itself. For the full 80miles it would lose power, almost like it had ran out of petrol, then find it again and kangaroo me forward. imagine learner driver at junction!
The car is under warranty and 7 day money back etc. but at a garage 80miles away, I plan to work the next 10 days and need the car to commute daily 30 miles between 2 sites over single track road through mountains.
Would anyone know how I could check or resolve the issues without me having to bounce 80miles down the A9?

general section crock of **** thread have a read and get dealer to fix it if it was a dealer purchase.

Maybe it is a fuel related problem try checking the pressure if possible

check the pump and fuel filtters more likely to be the intank pump

It could be the ignition system breaking up, It could be due to overheating/headgasket, it could be bad fuel/sticky fuel pump, etc etc.

Whatever the reason get it back to the garage you bought it from NOW before they use you as the scape goat for not refunding you or repairing it. If you carry on driving and cause further damage it is 'driver negligence' which does not come with a warranty.

Right back to the garage my friend, its under a warranty use it or you could find yourself needing more to fix it than you paid for it. They are great fun though and I envy you your location.

Well next morning the car runs smoothly and for the first time I got to appreciate the joy of a Freelander. Took it for a quick 30min run to make sure, all ok. Two days later and I take it for 3rd trip since buying, 10 miles in it starts to bounce again. I am about 3 miles from a service station so decide to head for there and get someone to look at it, 200m later and bang my clutch goes! It is now back to dealer for repairs. Does anyone know if the bouncing and clutch could be related? RAC man wasn't that sure and if they are not I don't want the garage fixing clutch then giving back a still faulty car!

I think I may have bought a dud!

3 trips 200miles, 70 of which were on back of tow truck!

get it back to the dealer under warranty as fast as humanly possible

you would have to be proper stupid to try fixnig it yourself or even opening the bonnet, just get it straight back there!! pronto

Well car has been returned and a replacement FL picked up on Tuesday, 4 days and no issues! thanks to all who replied

Did the garage agree to change the Freelander easily or did you have to push them? What did they say about the repairs needed?

It was hard work! They offered to fit a new clutch and fuel pump/filter but as they had almost identical version on forecourt I argued that if they could fix mine so easily then they could swap it over and sell mine again. I had been towed 80miles on back of RAC truck, followed by a 160mile round trip in hire Ford Ka, I was in no mood for discussions.

Its still a petrol so will have a play with this one for a while then look at a getting a full size/diesel one.

Hi, wondering if you had the same symptoms as i do here, i made a video when i was stranded a few weeks ago. The problem was the fuel pump, 1.8 K series.
