Back in France with my trashed 110 Defender. I've decided the block etc. is salvageable, not the head alas.
Number 1 piston is mangled so that has to go. I'm going to lug the block back to blighty to rebuild it.
Some questions:
Can any one think of a reason why I shouldn't replace just the trashed piston and hone the bores and re ring the others? New shells etc. obiously.
No.1 injector nozzle is now burried inside the head. New nozzles on all 4 and get them overhauled sound like a plausible plan? Land Rover say can't be serviced and replace them as a set. 4 new ones cost five times what I paid for my first car!!
Any Sources for a flat crack free 200tdi head?
Recommendations for a good engineering works in London/ Midlands?
If you've been down this sorry path and know whether this will work or not, I'd be glad of the advice. I do very long distances across Europe, often towing boats, so the motor has to be bullet proof when it's finished.
Thanks guys.
