Hello sorry to be a pain i have searched as i have the oil light flicker at idle when the temp gauge goes above the second notch and reading through the searches it says that it could be something serious but to check things first
the car has not long been serviced by dunfolds? i think it is so should be ok

I have just taken ownership there is plenty of oil in the car and its fresh and clean (well as clean as it can be)

potentially a little too much but the invoice says 6.8 litres? so i will do an oil change just to make sure

The other thing that has been advised is to change the oil pressure switch so i have rang my local parts supplier and its nice and cheap at around £15.00 but if someone could please let me know where it is so i can change it

like i say sorry to be a pain but im just a New Landy Lover after a break and my first ever diesel

no point doing another oil change if it's only just been done ?

have you had the idle speed checked, if it's to low that'll also result in a flickering pressure switch - as could a dying oil pump, but replacing the switch is a good second option after checking the idle speed

Oil pressure switch is screwed in to the oil filter housing and switches are only £5.

As Sean has said, change the oil pressure switch first. I had a 2.5TD in that had the oil light on all the time even after an oil change. Swapped in a new switch and the light went out, no reason to think that it was anything else.

However, is this doesn't work then I would remove sump and pull the oil pump next to check the pressure relief valve is not sticking.

thanks for all that i shall do those then and off i go and wouldnt you believe it on my way home another problem oh the joys :)

regarding the idle speed it is just under the 1k on the rev counter how would i go about checking that? sorry to be a pain

all sorted new pressure switch installed first day off in a week and now its sweet as a nut thanks for the help with out the forum i would of been panicking !
