What's the approximate weight of a complete engine including ancillaries?

Just trying to get an idea so I can think about how I can store and handle it etc. Guess I could hire an engine hoist.

around 220/ 250kg depending on how complete eg alt manifolds, turbo etc etc

Fact. Hoist required. You don't wanna put the full weight on the sump.

See if you can find a cheap hoist. Can always sell on here when you are done. Makes it much easier to work on at chest height too.

You need a hoist, always handy to have never know when you might need it again.

I've had mine years. Used it LOADS but only ever twice for an engine!!

Invaluable thing to own.

a decent jack will do, but definatley easier with a crane/hoist

put it on a pallet and you can drag it

A furniture dolly with reinforcement where the bellhousing and front of the engine cover rest works fine for it. I use that for 2.25s, TDi and Rover V8s. DO get some extra material in where the edges sit though because it will crack the cheap wood thwese things are made from.
