I have broken a MPI 1990 H Disco and have the axles and diffs (24 spline) 60k miles. I want to used these on my G reg (pre JA) 200tdi (330k miles).

Just striped them down and they look great, no wear on half shafts, Stubs and diffs

My diffs are 10 spline and I want to know if there are any obvious issues with swapping the lot.

Think back will go ok, but front axle is slightly different (brakes and stub axles with through flange)

didnt thnk 24 spline cme in till after JA , 24 spline shafts are slightly shorter than 10 spline and hubs stubaxle are different to reduce the amount protruding to allow later ali wheels to fit, swappimg whole axle not an option ?

the question Is can is can i keep the original axle casing and swap over everything off the dismantled MPI axle from stub axles brakes, swivel housings the lot.

Does anyone know if they changed the axle casing from pre JA to post JA . or early 1989 TO 1990.

I have dismantled everything off the MPI axles including half shafts, brakes, diffs and stub axles . the original MPI casings are too rusted and damaged to save.

Everything else looks great . as said they only have about 60k usage

Great no abs anywhere this monster.. Just now need to find a dry day.

Put a recon Ashfords box in last year. so full plan is do the diffs then change props and the transfer box

Have got the swivels but a bit of pitting.

have used One shot for years since I lost a CV due to no oil. So they will work in the short term.

Been thinking of doing a similar job myself,as now got a 1991 V8 (200 style) and a dead 1994 300 tdi.The swivels are deteriorating on the V8 and are fairly new Defender TD5 ones on the 300,so thinking of swapping complete axles front and back.I now know the 200 and 300 models have different braking systems, but are the caliper mounts and disc sizes the same?

calipers are the same size including pistons discs the same caliper bolts on 300 are metric bihex head 200 either metric bihex or hex headed imperial

no they aint James. I have an L and an M reg 200TDi and the calipers and disk pads are different. (coz i tried swapping em :(,)

calipers do have different pads depending on split pin or solid pin securing them, discs the same and pistons are so same effective braking just different pipes and maybe bolts depending
