Yea the seals all in, but im failing to get the gear box in. Ive wasted 3 hours in total trying, think i may need to re-aline the clutch.

how are you aligning it? Use a sock et set extension bar and do it by eye - ive never got it wrong like that. If you look through the hole, you should be able to see the centre of the recess int he flywheel. Line that up with the middle of the splined bit, and then make sure the clutch forks line up with the outer ring on the friction disc.

:)

Yea done that, kinda like iron sights, seems central to me. It stops going in with about 2cm gap, and the copper greece ive put on the gear box splines is untouched, so the shafts going in but the splines arnt. Maybe i need to try turning the drive while somone is pushing it towards the engine.

that helps. get someone to turn the crank by hand, from the front pulley, while you get violent with the 'box. in the past i've found it easiest to literally haul it about, twist it a bit, throw it up and down, wobble the LR, eventually itll just go 'schnick' and drop in.

Hi All - not sure if you al have been successful in implanting your 300TDis in your vehicles, but I had started a new thread to cover tha same thing, e.g fitting a new Disco 300TDi + Disco R380 +Disco LT230 1:1.222 Transfer box in my Defender 110 MY1987. Details as follows:

I am planning the replacement of the current configuration:

Isuzu2.8TD / LT85 / LT230 1:1.222 (from Discovery)

with the following items:

Discovery 300TDi / Disco R380 / Disco LT230 1:1.222 (from Discovery - same unit as above)

I heard different views as to the following:

The R380 Discovery gearbox is fundamentally different from the Defender R380 and the gear levers will not fit the current tunnel. Please note I am therefore planning to replace the current gear tunnel (and floors) with a Defender 300Tdi Tunnel as I understand it is the correct one for the R380 gear box. The question is therefore:

a) would my planned action resolve the issue or do you have any advice, in other words, should I look for a Def R380 instead.
b) if the Disco R380 can be fitted, i need a 300TDi new gear tunnel, will the seatbox require replacement too
c) is the positioning of the R380 box cross member different also and where?
d) will the prop shafts require replacement too?

Thanks in advance for any help and kind regards,

GG

PS thanks a lot to TIG9619 for his very kind feedback to my separate posting to initiate this topic :)

thats exactly how i did mine just cut seat box in front of cubby box and remake it so easy and you get the better stronger disco box and a bonus i found when got the disco itself i found that engine 2 years ago had a full rebuild pistons etc and gearbox is a new ashcroft box and transfer box with all the uprated bits inside

so the best is a 300tdi engine with the old gearbox lt????? with disco tranferbox does the didco tranferbox hav a diff lock in it ? because i been offered a 300 tdi dico 4 £350 and thinking the same ame use the axles

If you are not going to have a center seat just use the disco box.The high low stick comes up where the main stick was and the main stick comes up at the front edge of the seatbox,a bit of fetteling with rubber boots and you will have tide set up with room for a center cubby and i think a nicer gear change.
