When fitted to vehicles with an automatic transmission, power was increased to 122 horsepower to make up for the power losses in the transmission. These engines (designated 23L) had Bosch Electronic Diesel Control systems, where the mechanical injector system was controlled by a fly-by-wire electronic throttle to reduce emissions.[71]

Dunno where that came from, but my engine is definitely a 23L, and definitely has the manual type injection pump. Realised that the EDC (fly by wire) pump looks totally different to the mechanical one haha

yep read that on wikapedea but sure i was toled that my 23l def was a 122 and not 111 as you would expect

yeah just copied it thought might help but you no these landys nothing straight forward. Sometime it was like they used what ever was in reach when they built them

only edc have extra power ,plus you cant allways go by the number ,there must be thousands of knicked renumbered engines out there

at least i know mine is straight as i got it checked over by land rover and had a full report ie service and recalls
ref the refit the only thing i can definatly say is the engine mounts will need to be moved

numbers were straight its just the engines they stamped number on wasnt ,used see more knicked than straight 10 years ago

i wondered if that was due to turbo position. are the 300 turbos diff or the same?

Due to different tuning on the injection pump as opposed to turbo positioning. Turbos are all in the same place on 300s, and are the other way round than a 200 turbo, i.e. exhaust outlet faces towards the front of the engine.

had a customer in today who reckoned hed had his 300 tdi f redg in the family for years and paid a lot to get it converted when i asked why it was a 300 on early plate and it was 300 in every aspect ,today he told me police had told him it was knicked ,i cant workout whether he was unlucky or knew since the story he had told me before

Sounds dodgy, if police have only just told him it's nicked, then surely it's been nicked fairly recently and therefore he can't have had it in his family for years?

i been servicing it for a few years ,apparently police found out by duplicate documents showing up ,it was knicked a few years ago they told him

Another question...

Are Defender and Discovery 300 Tdi flywheel housings the same?

Mine is slightly damaged (chipped) and I want to replace it before fitting the engine.

... James? :D
