Hi guys just bought a 2004 td4 freelander and need to replace the vcu and bearings so I'm going to convert it to 2 wheel drive for the moment while I get the prop all sorted , is this a straight forward job and do I need to get a blanking plate for ird box ??

Easier to remove the props and vcu in one go. Leave the pinion connected to the ird and yer won't need a blanking plate.

Thanks for the advice also got another question I've seen lots of stories about smoking and rough running td4s on cold start up but has anyone got to the bottom of this problem as mine is doing it now

I believe that's usually down to injectors - but you should start a new thread for a different question - you've a better chance of replies.
