You really want an Aluminium (aircraft grade) full rack. Anything else is risky... you can do it with steel rack (but its too heavy with 1 tent on already yet alone 2) or bars (but so much pressure on 2 points).Hi,
About to pick up a 110 and we want to move our 2 roof tents off the VwT5 onto the defender. What rack/bars would you suggest? Lots of pics of 1 roof tent fitted, but not many pics of 2 tents up on the roof!
Thanks
Leah
We have roof bars at the moment. If we can’t find anything else we’ll get some to fit the defender.I prefer roof bars as I can take them off or add another by myself. I have a 1.8 tent at the moment which I mount on three bars.
Will have a look and see what they have. ThanksI’ve recently fitted a Troop 3 rack from Direct 4x4. They do multiple fitting kits for it and I’m sure they’ll do one to suit you. It’s big, that’s for sure!! I wouldn’t be surprised if you could fit two roof tents on it!
Will have a mosey around the website and see what they have. I am a bit nervous of the weight on the Defender roof. The T5 seems more substantial. You really want an Aluminium (aircraft grade) full rack. Hannibal is the best and so light you can lift it on easily, I think its only about 10 kilos....pricey, but it wont rust.
Was wondering when you’re putting your tent up and down do you stand on the roof at all? We do on our T5 (often it’s a kid) to tick bits of material in. Looking at the defender we got yesterday I’m not sure even a kid could stand on the roof. How does this work with roof bars? Was thinking we’d need a rack for this reason. Thought it wouldn’t be a good idea to stand up there. Not sure any of us are tall enough to stand on a cool box and manage to tuck!If you meant to walk on the roof I'd definitely buy a roof rack. When we pack the tent, my wife stands on our cold box and tucks the material away.
