4.6petrol Holland Holland, running on Shell V power 97 Octane.
Just had a run to Cardiff about twenty miles parked up for around 15minutes and drove home. On the way home it seemed to develop a misfire feeling as only running on 7 cylinders, when I put my foot down seems to pick up almost as good but feels as though she is missing and quite lumpy.

Last week the cruise control stopped working, I hear a clicking in the drivers foot well could this be a relay problem, I notice the vacuum hoses under the bonnet are not in the best of order as they appear to be cracking.
Possible remedies to the knowledgeable out there please.

PLugs and leads are always a good place to look. Pull the leads off and give them a clean, a new set of NGK BPR6ES and away you go. Most likely the vacuum hoses are shot with the cruise.

Had the rangie on a diagnostic machine today biggest problem appears to be the intermittent misfiring which could cause damage to the catalytic converter I was told. Bought new HT leads and plugs tonight took me 3 hours changing the HT leads, was unable to change the lead on number 3 on each side such a bitch to get to. Had to call it a draw and get the man in garage to change number 3 lead. Will do the plugs tomorrow, I have read it will need a 0.8mm gap. Can any one confirm? Garage recommended I change the coil as well, any thoughts on this?

yes easy job, get her warm get some body to sit in and keep it running. and unplug it, its on the big pipe from air filter, then take it for a run see if any better..

Once again J the range thank you, I also enquired at Bearmach for some Vacuum hosing that has perished only two short pieces, they told me one small piece is about £19 and would have to order it in. Will gas hose do that feeds my barbecue regulator, or any other suggestions

Get the HT leads scoped. They can start messing about when they get hot. I take it you are not on LPG?

Hi WSLR, just replaced the HT leads was unable to change no3 on both sides the garage is hopefully going to do that today 22nd. I will put new plugs in tonight and see how she performs. I am running on petrol only I don't want to change her to LPG i'm a bit of a purist and skint.

I changed the plugs last night and on inspection all were seemed to be working with no damp areas through not firing. The wife has said it still appears to be lumpy when warm so will look at the MAF sensor tonight as J the Range suggests.

Just tried to clean the MAF sensor before going for a run . On first inspection it appears to be a star drive screw head however its been modified by Bosch and has a pin to stop you putting a standard star drive in!

Ah, so it's a Thor Motronic.

If you are happy with the leads, and you've got the correct plugs (and Gaps) in, then take a look at the coil pack.

When it starts messing about, try and take a good look behind there while the engine is running. DON'T stick your hand back there just in case there is a problem. I've seen sparks earth in very strange ways back there on these packs. You would be best doing this in the dark, but that may not be so easy at the moment. I'm guessing one or more of the leads is earthing back there and not discharging at the plug.

Oh, and well done on just the Petrol, not LPG. Cheap LPG installations have killed off most of these awsome cars.
