hi, am going to attempt to lift my disco next week but it's my first time, have been told the front is the worst and longest to do.
i will be doing it in the car park outside my house so any advice on equipment and tools that i will need would be most welcome

thanks

I'd use a jack, don't attempt it by hand as they are quite heavy.

Unless you going for some sort of record attempt? In which case can we have some pics??

I would assume the front is the heaviest as that's whee the engine is usually located.....

Good luck!

I did mine in a weekend on my own.

Tools I used were a big hammer, trolley jack, normal sockets and spanners etc.

A 4" angle grinder came in very handy in cutting through some of the old bolts as the shocks just turned. I also cut through the front springs so they dropped out of the way. Don't try to cut them when under any compression though.

I did not use spring compressors it all went ok without needing them if you jack it up high enough.

Make sure you have all new nuts and bolts.

Good luck

I jacked and secured the chassis up far enough to get the wheels off, removed one wheel, then used the Disco bottle jack to spread the axle/chassis. Easy job, front and rear, springs almost fall out and +2" can be coaxed back in. Hardest part is undoing the front shock top or bottom bolts .. if you can, undo the bottom bolt so you can push the shock up into the turret so there's room for the spring to drop out/fit in.

Buy a new turret ring set before trying (if you can't undo the bottom) to remove the turret .. they are very likely to snap!

Rear is simple, remove wheel, undo top shock bolt, spread axle/chassis ...

personally i cant see any point of putting a 2" lift on for the cost of of it why not go 3-5 " lift

I done mine a coupke of weeks back and i done the same way as paul done his. also undo the anti-roll bars, that lets the axle drop more

thanks for all the advise, have already got new turret rings as heard they often snapped, also got new spring retainer clamps as wasn't sure if id need them.
will be having a crack at it later in the week so may be back with a big 'HELP' post...:confused :)
