Hi there!

So I'm looking for a front bumper for a 110 300tdi (non air con) with a 2 inch hitch receiver, as the yanks call it. I want to use it for a few reasons, but it has to be capable of withstanding the forces of a demountable winch set up.

Does anyone know any suppliers? I've found a steering guard with one integrated, but I think this might be a little low to the grounds for my needs. http://www.extreme4x4.co.uk/Store/P...f-steering-guard-with-built-in-shunt-receiver

I am not aware of a Defender bumper made with a 2" receiver build in .

The standard Defender bumper is typically made from 3-5mm mild steel.

A winch mounting plate system is typically made from 8-10mm mild steel.

To fit a demountable winch on a 2" receiver mounted on a front Defender bumper would be a special one off job as you would need a big spreader plate between the front chassis leg.

Doable at a cost but since a special order it would be money upfront.

Why do you want to fit a demountable winch by the way?

Wouldn’t it actually end up being a pain in the butt lugging it on and off? They aren’t light and trying to do that while your stuck etc might be a right faff
 
Military aircraft front bumpers have pins in them.
Unsure if these are plated to use with a winch

No way, I have a mod spec one on my mod spec defender and it’s not a recovery point for anything serious, it’s only reinforced around the pin - not the bumper mounts so its possible to banana your front bumper if you use it as a recovery point.
It’s meant for either straight bar pulling on roads or for shunting trailers about etc

I don’t use mine, I use the jate rings on the chassis and a strop to make a Y pull

They are designed for the numpty drivers who can’t reverse trailers into parking/service bays. The army has loads of them. I wouldn’t use it for anything really.

Nope it don’t, apart from zip tying a poppy on for rememberance day. Otherwise I don’t use it either.
 
I would be interested in this too.
As much of a pain it would be to mount it, for the sake of having it in the cabin in a dry environment appeals to me for it would be for emergencies only.
Not only that i have a 2" receiver on the back so in essence i could chose either front or rear giving much greater flexibility.
I can only see advantages. And i would be interested in a light winch, not these massive fast ones that can pull Mars into earths orbit.

No winch with a load rating capable of recovering a bogged down defender will light. Even with a synthetic rope they are inherently heavy items. Some are lighter than others (I have a husky which is very heavy worm drive) but when mounted the receiver carrier tray it is not going to be a light combination and will potentially need two people to mount it even in good conditions.
 
I had a quick gander and ATV winches, a around 40KG :eek:
the 6t ones more akin to a defender are arond 70KG :eek::eek:
 
Still if you use a pulley block or 2, the small winch would give you the pulling power of the big one.
I've honestly never used a winch or ever seen anyone use one so I might be dreamin
 
Just another thought, If you are going to have a demount-able one that is carried in the vehicle taking up space you might as well get a Tirfor, good strong and far more versatile. And they are probably just as much physical effort during the recovery as loading the electric one to the receiver would be!

Cost of having 2 winches, security of them being nicked off the vehicle, longevity of condition, being able to keep inside the vehicle.

This spreads the load between the chassis legs, and is marketed as for a detachable winch tray. I would just like something integrated into a bumper.
