I'm looking to get a lift kit for my Disco 1 but I'm not sure which kit or what I need in the kit.

I want to take it off roading now and then so bigger off road tyres are in order but before getting mud or all terrain tyres 265/80/16 or similar I want/need to lift her up first.

Some lift kits are just shocks and springs where as other kits have correction radius arms and other things.

What do I need to do what I want?

thanks

Here here.... I also hate it when people can not be arsed to serch first

Yeah here here.... Well I guess I should first thank you for a warm welcome guys... you're representing the forum well!! No really, well done! Try giving your manners a 2 inch lift and maybe lower your pretentiousness 40mm ;)

Hope the rest of the forum is a little more friendly!

So having looked around and indeed searched... I'm still unsure whether I required corrected radius arms, cranked rear arms, cones and other things.

Some say you don't need or they have gotten away with no more than springs and shocks.. The "Thinking of lifting your Landy? Read this first" thread suggests otherwise as well as a few other posts suggesting to keep it all standard if possible.. cheaper and possibly a better option for now.

So now I'm off to look up how to fit bigger tyres without a lift kit :) thanks anyway guys!

i would fit spring shock kit if you want to lift it ,its not extreme and is probably all you need,if self steering is reduced /lost castor correction bushes/arms can be fitted but generally not needed as with rears if spring plates seem too angled but i wouldnt have thought it would be, on some ive done front prop became noisy but can be general condtion of many parts as well as lift contribute ,others were fine

And I hate the ignorant bastards who **** on peoples posts, instead of being polite and giving folk the time of day ! Tools...

here here lol.

hmmm I'm really in two minds about a lift kit now. As it's also going to be my main vehicle soon I'm thinking the risk of things going wrong after a lift may be a little too much?

Given that what I really want is a little more ground clearance, how does just putting bigger tyres like 235/85/16 with arch trimming etc as per Disco Tire Fitting Guide (and and arch flares to tidy it up) compare to a 2" lift?

Thanks

Dude, I have a 2 inch (spring and shock only) and run 265/85... My front arches have been doctored to accommodate however. :)

Its all swings and roundabouts.......The only real reason to fit a lift (other than cause it looks good ) is to allow the fitting of even bigger tyres than you can as standard and a bit of trimming, then you need to think about larger wheel offset to stop your tyres rubbing at every corner.....BUT every bit of lift, tyre size, tyre offset put extra strain on your bearings, UJ's etc which is all ok if your doing extreme stuff and dont mind the extra maintenance.

Then again a Disco with decent tyres is pretty awesome off road as standard.

There is no clear answers and has been discussed in full many times so being asked to do a search 1st isn't bad advice....There's always someone who is happy to discuss the finer points when you have some opinions to play with.

Not taking your own advice here then :doh:......nothing but obscene abuse and no input of ANY type on the topic......Very impressive

May I politely suggest you stick your head up your own arse and try whistling Dixie:mooning:

This is possibly one of the worst forums I use, never witnessed such a large amount of loudmouth offensive impolite people.

You have clinched it for me, with this thread, having a go at someone with smart arse replies.

I have never owned a Discovery, so cannot really help - But I can spot gob****es a mile off, and this site appears to have a good selection.

Just a shame Ares didnt get a polite response, politeness and soap are cheap.

I wont be using the site again -
