Hi guys, I was changing the headlights on my landy from RHD to LHD, went to test them and switched on the ignition (yeh I know, force of habit) as I uttered doh, I thought what the Suarez teeth was that. There was a noise like someone arming a Second World War bomb coming from under the car, stuck my head through the transmission cover and realized it was coming from the petrol pump.

Is it supposed to be that noisy?

Cheers guys.

No def the petrol pump, I agree with miggames in that it's got to kick in, but the noise seems a bit excessive. It obviously works but you can't help wondering when it whirs and clicks so load that it could drown our Glastonbury that there might be a problem?

If anyone is a 2.6cyl owner, any chance they can just turn on the ignition without starting and see if they can hear anything?

They have two sets of over center contacts working the pump solenoids and they do click.

Like this but yours will have two solenoids so double the noise, bit like a demented pace maker until the float bowl fills up and the thing slows down.

In mine the electric fuel pump is mounted on the inner face of the drivers side chassis rail about 2/3rds of the way back, when you're sat in the cab you can hear it ticking away before you start the engine and when the engine is idling. As owl says when the carb bowl is full it slows down.

Thanks for that guys, nice video, yep sounds just like that but more clockwork whirring.

At least I now know it's okay.

Ajb403, mine's in the same place.
