Shell helix 10w40.

Shell is probably the only one worth the extra expense. Over the top when changing as often as I do though.

Personally I now get my oil off Eurocarparts when they have one of their 70% offers on. Delivered to the door in convenient containers and cheaper than getting a barrel off Smith and Allan.

Shell Helix is often the cheapest over here, otherwise it's Total. Castrol is only a brand name these days, don't often see it over here.

That's what I'm going to do because the engine was stud for 2 years under a tarp. Change oil every 1500 ml or so 2/3 times then put decent stuff in.

You’ll never drop it all out from the cooler etc but couple of flushes + filter it will clean out. mine was absolutely filthy, like liquid dinosaurs, in good condition now although the flush mixture is still in the system a little as it is continuing to get cleaner.

Change it today and yes came out engine like it had just been pumped out of the ground.

Mine does, every time. It is all the particulates from burning diesel. A thousand miles in and it is pitch black but pinch a droplet from the dipstick between your fingers and you can feel the oil doing its thing.
