Hi all I have only had my p38 a week and I am only getting 19mpg nursing it my 300tdi used to be far faster and used to give 27mpg easily and over 35mpg on a run!! the p38 has the hot starting problem relay fitted to it and it starts fine every time but I dont know where to start to try and better the mpg all the filters are clean, I read on here that some of the hot start relays make the brain think it's cold when it's not and that's how it starts so is mine allways running cold??? there's a timed relay on ebay for 30 quid and I may try that

The hot start fix should have a timer to switch it off after 30 secs or so. If it does not and it tells the ECU that engine is cold all the time you will get too much fuel being injected constantly.

Hmmm i dont have a hot start relay fitted (that i know of) though i am chipped and have a bigger intercooler just did the math and im getting about 19/20MPG that sound about right?

I'm averaging 19mpg without a hot start relay, this is on local journeys.

The last time I filled the tank up it cost £80, it's getting rather expensive but so much fun to drive.

I can't think of anything i'd rather own for the money. :biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1:

I wouldnt mind the low mpg if I was having some fun it and driving it like a t@@t but I am really nursing it

Hi, i've had my DHSE for a couple of weeks now and was concerned when I calculated my mpg at 22.5 for round town / a-road journeys. From the replies I got to my post it sounds like thats what others get from theirs too. Was hoping for 25, but hey-ho it's worth it

Only £80 Headbanger, you aint tryin, I can get £91 in mine. 23mpg (26 showing on dash) driven hard round town with rimmer power box.

I get 24 to 25 brim to brim around and about, but I live in France with empty roads and all my journeys are at least 25Km.
