After many hours weighing the cost involved fitting a new engine to my series 109 I have decided on the 2.5 N/A. I was going to go with the V8 but the one I have the offer of has done quite high mileage and when I think about with my sensible head I can't afford the fuel. The TDI engine are so expensive. I am scared of buying an old 2.5 TD due to the reliability issues so that leaves me with the N/A 55mph with an overdrive fitted will be just fine.

If there is anyone with a good one with all the bits that they want to sell and would not mind sticking it on a pallet :)

f.ilter jar another ption have is rebuild your engine, at least you wil know the history of it,and piece of mind , more so than buying a foooooooooooked engine, i would suggest going into paddocks web site and pricing the parts up, you will be very supprised at the low cost of parts incomparison with other vehicle parts, its a job worth thinking about, also i have an egine which is a 2.5 2286cc but the head was knackered on mine and i swapped them over, it as no injection pump fitted but i have 1 but that is knackered as the seals have gone inside, the bottem end is very good pistons &bores are tidy and as far as i know the crank and cam shaft are good, and its the 5 bearing crank, give it some thought m8 as there are people only to glad to sell you a duff engine, good luck regards jim

i have a fair source for tdi but ya take it its yours unless its totally then he does get anotherone.plenty 300tdi.2.5na etc what you want.can put on a pallett.
the tdi i got is ok.

charlesy i checked this bloke as to where he is from, it says over the bridge in bog land. my assumption on this is wales its always peeing with rain here,

Thanks guys, so much choice, what to do???

Good advice Brnocz, starting with a rebuild does sound like a good plan but I would rather find a good running engine? and get it in there. I already have a fair bit to do to the rest of the 109 and have kind of made a plan that I would rather not add to :)

Hey Beast, Thanks again but I reckon a 200TDI will cost a fair bit more than the 2.5N/A I helped a mate fit a 300TDI to his 110 it was a bugger.

So who minds a pallet service to the Scottish Highlands IV postcode (it's gonna cost me) is arranged for a 2.5 N/A

how many beer tokens are we talking about for the engine :)

Thanks again folks!!!

I tried to send FilterJar a PM but his settings don't allow it.

If he will indicate WHERE he is based we can discuss.

I tried sending you a personal message CharlesY, did it work? I am sure the settings are good. I'm up on Skye...

Thanks mate! Fiscavaig ;) It can be a lot of trouble getting larger car parts etc shipped though...

very nice, we've been going up there for years - and got married on Isle Ornsay last May outdoors on the only wet day you'd had for 6 weeks :)

Apparently I'm off up there next October for a holiday.....hmmmmm

you'll love it, even when it's wet cold and windy it's brill - and you gotta have fish n chips in Portree (bottom of steps by the harbour not the nasty new one at the top)

let me know when/where abouts your going and i'll get some info about places to stay if you need - one place in particular we love is a little BnB on Portree harbour, on the upper floor - they have very low windows so when you open your eyes in the morning (yer heads still on the pillow) you will see this - quality isnt great as they were taken on a phone
