I have a -98 mod 2.5DSE with high diesel consumption about 19mgp (12.5L/100km).
A year ago the consumptions was normal (26mgp or 9L/100km), but suddenly it start to use more fuel and the torque was also less.
The car has been in 2 kinds of garages but they can’t find anything wrong, no error codes has been detected/read and the turbo pressure is normal (1,1bar).
The Injectors (all 6) has been rehab at the last garage + new air and diesel filter.
(Engine has no EGR, and gear box is aut.)

Any ideas?

Well is it around town you are giving said figure for or on a run

Mine is a 97my no egr and a auto and it has a brand new fuel pump I avg anything from 14.6-17mpg around town and 26/27mpg on a run it is not chipped and totally standard it has 150k on it

You will use more diesel now it is colder well I have noticed it leaving car to defrost in the morning for a few mins

My '99 DSE 135K returns a weekly average of 26.2mpg....

This week was a bad week with a return of 23.4mpg....but according to my spreadsheet using the brim to brim method....it is averaged 26.2 over the last 10 weeks

How do u get that saint I avg 300miles over 3 weeks to avg £90 diesel

Is yours chipped etc manual or auto what does ur driving consists of to work etc

I do around 240 to 280 miles a week on a Monday I brim the tank and zero the trip....

The next Monday Lunchtime, I go back to the same fuel station and fill to the brim again and note the litres filled....divide this into the mileage done and record this down....

My drive to work is the first 9 miles is country lanes, then half a mile down an A road to the M25, 8 miles on the M25 then 4 miles on an A road and the Airport perimeter road to the office car park. Takes around 50 minutes and is done, at 6.50am in the morning and then at 15.45pm on the way home, so traffic is moderate.

It takes me nearly half a tank a week and on average is around £65-72 a week in diesel.

I estimate close to 450-480 miles per tank 500 if yer lucky although I rarely let it go beyond half way on the tank as I fill up every Monday lunch time

I am fairly light footed but do like to make progress so I set the Cruise Control when I can at around 60mph.....and read the traffic conditions well ahead to ensure smooth driving.

I have a reciept when I bought the car from Janspeed for ECU remapping and when booted it does take off like a scalded whippet, but I have not had it confirmed if the reciept is genuine or not or even if it has been remapped or not.

Having had 2 previous P38 V8's and having had to sell them due to changes in circumstances meaning fueling them was crippling me....and it breaking my heart to get rid of them, I went for a diesel this time and I try to be as economical as possible, as it would be heartbreaking again to get rid of another.....

Drive with your head, think about the traffic, road read well ahead and don't get to worked up by others on the road and you could save a bit in the fuel station....

Hello, the consumptions is not at town driving, only at run. In town driving the consumptions is about 16mpg (14.7 L/100km)

I see saint my journey to work is 2miles that is where mine sucks the diesel like said I'm now in skegness on holiday and it has avg on the trip 26.9 which I'm happy about

As with ur fault marog I would check for leaks etc

Leak off pipes leaking or in tank pump failed are 2 possible causes. Although you say there are no fault codes, you really need to look at live data as it could be the ECU engine temperature sensor failed so the engine is running rich or even crank/needle lift sensors playing up.

How long ago did you clean out the intercooler. If never, clean it. Also check pipe from under manifold to MAP sensor on top of fuel filter. Check it is sound, no cracks or splits and not blocked, also that inlet to pressure sensor is not blocked. And outlet from manifold is not restricted. Also check turbo pipes are not delaminating internally. Also check in tank pump is actually working and giving good flow.

Could you explain this procedure again? I am not sure I understand it

I have never cleaned the intercooler, the car has run about 260000km
I will try to clean it in the start of january, also check the turbo pipes, MAP pipes etc.
