heyo, im 80km into my journey, and experienced a few up hills which makes the rangie goes up to 95celsius. The temp gauge is not at red but towards the outer white marker. Note that i put my heater on max and fans on full power.

is 95celsius Ok at uphills? I’m not even towing anything…
I also noticed when i slide downhills my temp stays between 75-85. Even on flats the car might reach 95celsius all of the sudden.

it idles okay, and does not exceed 90 at idling.

am i in need of a new thermostat and waterpump soon? Still got 1000km to go, at minimum. Max 1500. Both my gearbox radiator and radiator does have some flies and common dust and some oil spill on.

I am gonna ask if my friends has a heat camera to look if my radiator is blocked or something. I heard thats common on theese cars.

i did not bleed the car on ramps. What i did:
Took of cap, and squeshed both the radiator hoses om the top, and i saw coolant coming out from the bleeding hose in expansion tank.

I will also try to bleed the car on a ramp when i reach my friends later today.
Procedure is just to remove top bleed hose, and drive it up on a ramp and let engine be on untill theres a good flow of coolant out of the hose right?

it cant be normal that the rangie is 95 celsius possibly higher up a hill without a trailer in the back. I dont even have 60kg payload.
Can you stop the fan with a rolled up newspaper when the engine is hot? Is you can it's knackered, sorry forgot your English isn't good ,it's fecked.;):D
 
Have you checked that the baffle in the top of the radiator is there, if you mate has a thermal camera you could check the top of the rad the battery side half should be colder than the EAS side.
 
With engine off stick your arm down and see if there’s any play in the water pump. Shouldn’t wiggle. If plastic fins have started breaking up only one way to tell is pull it out. Not 5 minute job. If theres considerable movement In bearing it’s on its way out

Hills should be no trouble so something isn't right. Viscous fan, water pump, thermostat or radiator. Last resort, cracked head but don't get ahead of yourself: easy stuff first.

So i reved it up to 2k and it began to look like something. It came out some brown old gunk, and when it was clear coolant xoming out a friend took the hose on again. There came bubbles in expansion tank when i bled it. I will see if it goes well on way home, theres a 4km 8%gradient hill straigth up (tunnel)

Brown old gunk? That isn't right. Sounds like it needs a good flush. Someone put Radweld in it?
 
I have drained the radiator for 3-4 week ago atleast, so the gunk has definetly minimized. I think i will ask around for a infra red camera. I suppose this brown gunk might have blocked some parts in the radiator? Im glad i got parts of it out atleast but some came back into expansion tank.

maybe i should have a nice flush, water pump and thermostat change in the coming week. And check with infrared if rad is blockrd.
All the hoses is atleast warm so there is circulation and the engine warms up as it should.

All the hoses is atleast warm so there is circulation and the engine warms up as it should.

Definitely flush. If you've got the rad out check the fins are clear of debris.

Make sure you use the right sort of antifreeze and don't mix them. Not a problem if you've done a decent flush. It should be the long life stuff.
 
If you've got the rad off then put a marble in one of the hose connections and see if it rolls along the top of the rad and comes out of the other,if it does your baffle is missing which will prevent proper liquid circulation.,make sure you get it out if it doesn't.give it a good flush inside and out.
 
Well, i did bleed it a certain amount, but how do i know its fully bled? Like, i didnt get any flow from the bleed when i disconnected it. I had to rev it to 2k, but do i need to perhaps wait for thermostat to open in order for it to flow out constantly? Because at first when i reved at 2k rpm a little bit came out, then more and more and then it turned constant, but if i dropped the rpm it idled it didnt come anything out. Ive began the last part of the journey and it didnt go up to red but when up a fair bit, just over a timespan of 20-30seconds going from middle to almost white towards red.
With no payload in car or behind car.
It happend uphill.

i suppose when i flush it i can just do what chris fix does in his video? :confused:
 
Facepalm, just hit my face that when i took off and on the intake manifold, i sat on the radiator baffle :D Might have cracked it? :confused:
:confused: Dunno, guess i gotta do the marble test or something?? Easy to take out? do i need fan out?
 
Hardest bit will be if your vcu is stucked (LH thread).
Beware plastic top of radiator if engine is running. Have been known to blow.
 
Update, i took a newspaper and tried to stop the viscous, nah. It just started to eat some paper, fan didnt stop at all neither slowed down.
