Just an idle thought. I'm pretty happy with my 2.25 petrol now it's got a bigger carb, ported head and fancy cams but would like thoughts as to weather a 2.5 block would be a worth while improvement and weather my fancy souped head would work with it....no talk of diesel transplants. Not really interested in oil burners but that might be am option for my other motor

So do you reckon the skimmed and ported head would transplant....probably cost me more than the motors worth. Well worth the money though. the extra compression made a decent impression on efficiency.

what are the main differences between the engines other than stroke. I'm guessing all 2.5s are 5mb but are all the tappets and stuff the same?

I have to say a lot of folks seem to disparage landy engines but I have to say I like em. Maybe not the most efficient but theyseem to be well engineered and tough as owt and not prone to the usual miseries of poor starting and overheating of cars of the same era...

Cheers d

yes all 5 brg and metric as later 2.25s ,slightly better exhaust manifold and bigger bore exhaust ,better carb ,but basically the same engine mechanically bits interchange like heads etc

Smart. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a 2.5....what I'd really like to do is get a 200tdi and convert to petrol but that might be beyond my powers...

combustion camber is in the head ,and 2.5 petrol pistons can be fitted in tdi block ,2.25 petrol /diesel through to 300tdi all use same crank journal dimensions and bore diameter

Might be worth a try then. Wil have to do a bit of thinking....and finish(start?)my 109 project first!.

thanks for the replies lads

Just been thinking about this a bit more. I suppo se that one thing that will need to be figured out is how to drive the cams...how to replace the timing pump and can belt and get back to a wet chain? I can't remember how the fron of the engine is.is the cash chain housing bolted to the block our is it part of the same casting?

zues do a timing gear set for the 200 and 300 tdi engines basically converting your belt to chain but they are noisey though

dont mind a bit of noise....pretty deaf from the current landy. other one,s got carpets and head lining so should be quieter.

Greetings from Finland. Sorry my english. Last summer i changes my series 88" 2,25 diesel to 2.5 petrol engine. Reasons to do the changes was very expensive diesel tax and lazy diesel engine. Now my series is like rocket, almoust.

are you sure its a runner? ,but its a lot of work when 2.5 petrol just bolts in to either diesel or petrol simply

Last one wouldn't fit the series box, getting a new pinion for the R380 from ashcroft to make it fit the V8 and I'll need an R380 V8 bellhousing or to machine a plate to make it fit

Although it depends on how the conversions been done on this one, last time something had been ground to make it fit I think. If it doesn't fit an LT77 isn't too expensive
