Are you meaning an engine swap, or looking at an entire vehicle?

If the latter, then I'd say look for tidy, good condition, good spec. 4.6's will normally be well equipped. But if you want a manual, then a 4.0 litre is your only choice.

99+MY has 4 wheel traction control, which is brilliant if you'll off road it, or even in the snow.

Swopping 4x4 for 4x4...this one is 4.0 manual...I'm looking to swop with...bit gutted really ..shame the 2.5 hasn't enough power for me ..I do like to get 70 before a fiesta zetec sport...

Much enjoyment and big grins if you havnt tried the v8 you can have ago of mine and I'll show you what to look for engine wise seeing as iv done my hg

Make sure there is knothing wrong with your current engine. Mine went fine, but many don't seam to run/perform well.
The 2.5D is more reliable than the V8...
However, totally understand why you would want one.
Enjoy and make sure you have that cash reserve. Get yourself a good one..
regards..

Think you will find a chipped diesel is just as quick as the 4.0 litre petrol. Not a lot in it anyway.

Does the bmw tuning box work on the range rover diesel...coz the fittings look the same

No not as far as i am aware. Different mapping i would think. BMW injection pumps won't work on the RR different electronics, so i see no reason why the tuning box will.

I'm in two minds now ...are they that bad on petrol..lol
The V8's won't be as good on fuel. But it really depends how many miles a month you'll be doing, on whether it'll be a noticeable difference.

A manual V8 should 18-20mpg no probs unless you race about everywhere or only do heavy town traffic.

My 4.6 auto is doing 17mpg at the mo. That's pottering about, short journeys and off roading. On a run it'll do 20-21mpg. I can't believe a diesel is vastly better.

A manual chipped diesel might almost match an auto 4.0 litre on a good day. But a manual V8 will **** all over the diesel.

A automatic diesel will not be a long way behind. Hardly worth swapping to a petrol for the difference. Considering their multiple vagrancies.

On my annual run the Mancy airport and back 34 MPG on the trip. Around 21-22 round town stop start. So all in all a lot better.

I like the diesels so won't bash them. But even an auto 4.0 litre should still be quicker than a chipped 2.5 as there is still 20-30hp difference and less weight. Add in better gearing and a more efficient drivetrain of a manual and it wouldn't really be a contest. Not if the person can actually drive it.

The p38 weighs a tad more than a classic. And I've personally seen an indicated 125mph from an auto 3.9 and they are quicker than a 150hp tuned Tdi 90. So a 150-160hp diesel p38 is not going to be playing ball.
