I recently started on the task of replacing the 12j engine in my 90 with a disco 200tdi unit, but managed to break the flywheel housing on the 12j whilst removing it. I've searched the forums on here and there seems to be various schools of thought on the subject of the conversion. It seems that the simlpest method is to bolt the old flywheel housing to the tdi motor and mate it up to the old gearbox but with that option now out of the window im unsure how to proceed, is it possible to adapt the tdi housing to fit the original g/box in the 90 ? or would it be possible to fit the disco box into the 90 ? i imagine this would involve re-siting the engine mountings further forward on the chassis. Or would it be easier just to buy a replacement housing from a breakers ? and if so are the flywheel housings the same on 10, 12 and 19j engines ? I do have the complete disco 200tdi donor vehicle but looking for the simplest and cheapest option... any advice will be much apreciated, many thanks.

fit the disco flywheel housing it does fit think you have to remove a stud and/or drill a hole this way you will keep the drain hole in the bottom of the housing which also is used for the timing pin :) (the old td housing has the drain on its side but with the new engine it is covered up)

Mine has the Disco box and it does eat the seat box. I measured it at about 9" back. It is however, a very comfy driving position with the gear stick shortened. The cubby box still fits as well, but is tight back against the bulkhead.

cheers but my 90 has a middle seat instead of a cubby box and i've 2 kids so reckon ill stick with the exhisting g/box and adapt the tdi flywheel housing.
