To my surprise, RAVE worked on Win10 without clicking through the Adobe error messages. that I get on XP.
After 2 days getting rid of all the surveillance and other unwanted stuff, Win10 works better than Win7 which is also a surprise.:D

I still use 7 professional 64 bit on main comp. It is superb. My windows 10 laptop is crap. Mainly because it constantly downloads crap that is not needed and uses all the disc space.

I got rid of all the crap downloads, it's a notebook/tablet with a detachable keyboard running Win10 64bit, internal SSD plus 128Gb XD card.
 
I reckon you need a monster laptop to run it happily, which I have, supplied by work.

Can anyone tell me if the pins run in this order, from the top, please?

Okay so RAVE has always frustrated me, I've tried installing in on several occasions.

I'm watching this video right now but cannot get past installing Adobe Acrobat 4 (which is from 1999)



I'm on a windows 10 laptop, x64

When I try to install the included Adobe Acrobat file, it quits after 3 seconds
When I try to double click the Rave.exe , it quits after 3 seconds

I do have a PDF of the workshop manual,and in the electrical section, the menu looks like this... it doesn't seem to have the diesel engine harness

I took the installed folder from my 32 bit XP computer and placed it in the c:\program files (x86) folder on my Win 10 64 bit computer then made a shortcut to the executable and it worked. Think there's a zipped copy like this somewhere.

I just copied the file across from my XP computer to the XD card, plugged it into the Win10 notebook and it worked, no messing with x86 or anything else.:D
 
Works on my HP Laptop running win10..

Preferred Windows 7 but i'd say i'm getting used to 10 it is much better than 8 and 8.1!!!
 
Okay so I have news.

A Land Rover head here in Dublin called around last night, he used to work for Land Rover. He had with him a Hawkeye Pro, and he took a look at my car.

We were not successful, but, what we came across might be interesting to you guys.

First he plugged in the Hawkeye, but it found the same as my nanocom - 'unable to establish communications with the EDC'

He had a hunch that the EDC ecu was fried, so he took that apart and inspected it visually.

I mentioned to him that I had a spare EDC ecu and a spare working BECM

So then we swapped the BECM and the EDC from my spares red car into the blue P38, the theory being, that regardless whether the instrument pack worked, they should be able to communicate with each other in their new surroundings.

They were not able to communicate.
Exact same behaviour as before, unable to establish communications with the EDC.

So from that, it would seem that the problem lies elsewhere?

I'm thinking I might trace every single wire going from BECM to the EDC.

He had another thought, that it could be the module that sits on the injection pump, if that was blown it might explain the 'no rev' sitation. But it wouldnt explain the broken communications.



So, thats an update!

In a few days the car will be sent off to a P38 specialist that lives about 40 miles from here. I would like to try investigate further before that happens.

Nanocom can access:

HEVAC,
EAS,
auto transmission ECU,
ABS


Nanocom cannot access:

some of the airbags but not all,
Cannot read instruments when the engine is on,
Cannot read EDC ecu


I just noticed the 2 connectors on the passenger side footwell are corroded also.
I will probably cut and solder them tonight. I will seal up the scuttle panel with silicone, soon.

I think my primary mission is to trace every wire that goes from the BECM to the EDC, checking for continuity and searching for broken wires.
Does that sound logical?

Then i suggest you look at RAVE electrical manuals for connections from engine ECU to data link connector. If other stuff is accessible that is fed to the same data link pins then it can only be the connectors and splices feeding ECU outputs to those circuits that are at fault.

Work was hectic during the week, slows progress.

The Ex-Land Rover Mechanic phoned me the next day and suggested there was another large connector in the drivers side footwell. Is there?

I had a look on the red range (the dash is out of that) but could not see one.

I'm thinking of taking the 9 inch grinder to whats left of the dash brackets in the red range and physically inspecting all of the firewall wiring, so I can understand it.

My scuttle panel leaks into the footwell on both sides. I have a feeling thats the place the fault will be.

Greeting to all, hope things are good with you.

I took my P38 to an auto electrician, he first checked the wiring and said its okay.
Then he cloned my spare BECM and spare Diesel ECU, trying to establish coms to the diesel ECU .

I didnt quite catch what he said about that situation, as we were was a noisey workshop, I asked him to go out to the car with me.

He then said he thinks he need to repair the H-gate switch / 'Select Neutral' issue first, because the car is now stuck in low range, he thinks that might be causing a limp mode condition.

(I have a feeling thats an after effect rather than a symptom, of being laid up for so long. The air suspension also, held out for a month, bravely. Now one of the bags wont lift, so he is like, the air suspension is ****ed, and I'm like, I dont care, I just want you to fix the ECU issue. nothing else)

So, he wants my spare H-gate and my spare transfer box motor to run tests on them.

I took out the Automatic shifter from my spares car, it was covered in dirt and there were two pieces of broken plastic lying in the dirt, please see pic below on the botom right of photo.
What are these for? They look like part of the shift mechanism.

Don't want to put you on a bum steer but if you take off the expansion tank there are a couple of connectors under it, I know because that's where I found the broken wire that feeds power to the obd2 port.
